pretty poppy

I have a 12-15 new design goal for my semi-hiatus during 2013.  I have completed 2 with one in the works… a tad behind schedule, but let us focus on what we have completed!  Here is one design and the second will be along soon.  My favorite, favorite thing about this invitation?  Hands down… the stitched envelope liner.

This idea is one of 3 designs, inspired by a modern color block style.  I added some stamping and hand stitching and I love the bit of whimsy juxtaposed with a classic modern style.DSCN1269

Think of the color possibilities.  I love the bold contrast of the bright poppy with the white.DSCN1268

And the star…  She could use a little perfecting and neatening up… but I love her still.

calligraphy goodness

Recently I have been reflecting over the past 2 years and planning for the next (My business anniversary came and went in this house full of newborn joy).  Excited to post more soon.  Ironically, I stumbled across this today not only is it extremely inspiring, but it pretty much sums up my plan.  Oh Ira.  You always know just what to say.

Until I get all the details down in a clear and cohesive post, I thought I would share some calligraphy goodness!   I have a new appreciation for this art as I just finished up a class at my local art center.

such beauty and skill required for even the simplest rendition.

See more here, here, here and here

If you are interested in trying, this online class looks awesome and is something I will probably do in the near future to brush up and get reinvigorated, when I find my practicing lacking.  Or join a local class to meet some other script junkies in your area.

And you could always take the easy way and font it…

here are my favorite freebies 1. 2. 3.

there is a reason why these will cost you some moola.

Enjoy!

makeover monday

I am in need of a nap today.  A cold has hit our house.  {boo, hiss}

But before I run off to dream land, I had to post the first result from my challenge.

I started with my favorite card first, mostly because I had a vision for it already.

And surprisingly, the vision I had change a bit before making it’s way to paper.

So here is how it came together.  I am pretty happy with the results. There are a few necessary changes before this would be ready for the masses… but I think it would make a lovely wedding suite.  It remindes me of a different take on the paper lantern or pom pom decoration look that we all love for any type of fiesta!

I love how customizable it is, by changing the colors, or patterned paper, the invitation could take on a whole new look!  And I can’t help but think of how great these would look with envelope liners in the same matching patterned paper!

Ok, time for me to get some rest before the little miss is ready to play again!  –happy monday!

The bride and groom added the ombre coloring to these invitations using watercolor paints!  They are just perfect if you ask me!

a month of makeover monday’s

I have been…or was supposed to be taking these last few months to focus on getting invitation designs together.  I swore off craft shows for the year (Nothing personal, they just take most of the limited time that I have to work on SLD related projects), with the hopes of creating some new invitation designs.  After all, it was always my primary desire to design unique, affordable invitations.

Of course, the best laid plans… well, let’s just say that orders have been steady(!!!), and I have yet again, pushed the invite design, (except those attached to paying clients) to the back burner.  As I see the months of pregnancy closing in on me, and baby #2 getting ready to make an appearance, I know this is my last chance to get some designing in before I close down shop for a nice loooong maternity leave.

So… a challenge!!   To complete 4 design conversions over the next month.  I am going to take the 4 new designs I posted about here  and create a birthday invite, 2 wedding invite suites, and a baby announcements.  The next 4 Mondays I will post how each of these card designs becomes an invitation!  The rules won’t be too strict, I can mimic the layout, or the paper, just the general theme from each design.  Excited to see how this turns out!!
