oh hello there

Yeah, is it really March 12th?  no.no.  That can’t be.  I have been royally slacking over here… but the good news, I have been making things!!  Just not the best at getting pictures uploaded, edited and getting posts put together.

So until I get some photos of my most recent creations ready for your viewing pleasure… I thought I would share a little tour of my gals rooms!

I had an orange obsession last year, when we painted Saida’s room and that has morphed into a teal obsession this year as we set up Camille’s.  This is also the year we are painting the first floor… and I seriously need an intervention, otherwise, the entire house may end up some shade of blue green.

I really like the mix of new, handmade and thrift finds.  Those shoes, her daddy and her papa both wore them at their Christenings.DSCN0446

These curtains and the rug came from Urban Outfitters.  I never would have thought to look their for kids room stuff, but I stumbled across them and I am so happy I did.  I wanted something bright and playful, but still useful and not overly kiddy, something she could grow into… and I like them so much that I could use these in an office or guest room when she gets old enough to want a change.DSCN0461

Saidas Room

I have to say, I really love how Camille’s room turned out.  It may be one of my favorite spaces in the house.  The color is so relaxing, but still so fun and colorful.  DSCN0711

I was thrilled to have an opportunity to make some decor pieces for the nursery.  We were moving when we had Saida and then again a year later… so she did not end up with much of a nursery… being more settled this time around I was all about it!  The poms were a fun creation to work on in the late stages of pregnancy and the curtian was made with scraps from the frame and fabric wall… this was my first time sewing something to be used!  It shows, but I don’t care, i like it!  The letters were a fun project too, Saida and I painted away our summer afternoons.  Good memories.DSCN0728

calligraphy goodness

Recently I have been reflecting over the past 2 years and planning for the next (My business anniversary came and went in this house full of newborn joy).  Excited to post more soon.  Ironically, I stumbled across this today not only is it extremely inspiring, but it pretty much sums up my plan.  Oh Ira.  You always know just what to say.

Until I get all the details down in a clear and cohesive post, I thought I would share some calligraphy goodness!   I have a new appreciation for this art as I just finished up a class at my local art center.

such beauty and skill required for even the simplest rendition.

See more here, here, here and here

If you are interested in trying, this online class looks awesome and is something I will probably do in the near future to brush up and get reinvigorated, when I find my practicing lacking.  Or join a local class to meet some other script junkies in your area.

And you could always take the easy way and font it…

today

thinking of faraway friends

thinking of old roommates and careless times

remembering that they didn’t feel so careless then

thinking of the rarity of real, true friendship

the richness of true community, how we were so blessed to share it.

thinking of times to come.

how different things are

thinking how I miss they way they were

thinking that I love the way she says “this is my family” and recites each of our names.

knowing it is different now.

hoping she has a “stand-in family” when she is in her searching years

praying that they will be as nurturing, encouraging, admonishing and lovely as mine.

i am thinking of you today.
